Job Summary

The Director, Retail Protection Product Filing will work on the pricing and design team with a focus on life insurance and supplemental benefits. This position requires in-depth knowledge of product development, actuarial demonstrations, life insurance illustrations, and reinsuranceThe position will be responsible for drafting policy and rider form language as well as applications and reinsurance treaties and amendments. In addition to managing the drafting processes, this position may be responsible for other business area functions such as illustration testing and support for both in force and prospective new business. This position may also be involved in developing actuarial content while working with a qualified actuary for such things as nonforfeiture testing and accelerated death benefit methodology demonstrations.

This position reports directly to the AVP, Retail Protection Products - Pricing & Design Actuary and is expected to interact with multiple business areas including but not limited to product management, product implementation, experience analysis, underwriting, claims, legal, and various other operational business units.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Own the development of new protection product policy and rider forms in collaboration with pricing actuaries, attorneys and other business representatives.
    • Strategic development and drafting of policy forms in alignment with current products that allows for flexibility in the use of the forms
    • Collect, assess, and incorporate feedback from interested parties
    • Develop actuarial demonstrations under the supervision of a qualified actuary
    • Assist with the filing effort which may include responding to regulatory objections
  • Ownership of drafting reinsurance treaties and amendments for new and inforce products and ability to identify strategic reinsurance opportunities within the life insurance portfolio.
    • Work with actuaries to ensure the actuarial models are setup to evaluate the terms of the reinsurance.
    • Coordinate the collection of data needed for quoting purposes
    • Works with internal business partners to collect necessary information required by reinsurers who express an interest in reinsuring some of the business.
    • Work with an actuarial student to model the prospective RFP’s to assess the profitability implications and advantages and disadvantages of each quote.
    • Document the results and communicate with senior members of F&G leadership team regarding the recommended reinsurance actions
    • Develop documentation for internal pricing memoranda regarding the reisnruance quotes and final solutions.
  • Collaborate with underwriters, actuaries, legal representatives, and other business areas to develop and implement applications for protection products
    • Work with various business areas to develop new application designs to be used for protection products. The development may include the use of behaviorial strategies to be tested in a control framework to determine advantages and disadvantages of design alternatives.
    • Analysis of application testing will include general statistical and protective value studies working with internal and external business partners.
  • Assist in the development of marketing materials
    • Agent and consumer marketing materials for new or enhancements to existing products
    • Conceptual materials that describe the value proposition that life insurance can offer
    • Explanations for new or modified life insurance regulations
  • Ownership of new business and in force illustration certification processes
    • Under the supervision of a qualified actuary review and develop assumptions in accordance with F&G assumption framework, direct the modification of actuarial models used to perform illustration testing, and document the process in accordance with standard of practice and F&G’s model governance policy.
Experience and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, actuarial science, legal or related degree or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience contract drafting experience with prior experience developing actuarial content for filing or routing business processes
  • Experience with Indexed Universal Life, living benefits and reinsurance are preferred
  • ASA and MAAA designations are desirable, but not required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability draft contract language for protection products
  • Comprehensive understanding of NAIC and state life insurance laws and regulations
  • Awareness of Standard Nonforfeiture Law for Life Insurance, Life Insurance Illustration Regulation, and familiarity with reinsurance
  • Strong problem-solving skills that include advanced analytical and reasoning abilities
  • Well versed in life insurance underwriting and developing application with behavioral design elements
  • Unconditional integrity and commitment to delivering accurate information on schedule
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify issues and to influence key project decisions to achieve desired outcomes
  • Self-starter who demonstrates strong initiative and is able to operate efficiently in unpredictable and challenging project environments, managing the delivery of projects in addition to individual tasks and processes
  • Ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical audiences at all levels of leadership, either through verbal or written forms of communication
  • Be vigilant of changes in the industry that could impact duties or responsibilities
