Position TypeVolunteerJob DescriptionEnvironmental Consultant, a volunteer position within SIL, will be part of the Creation Care Unit tasked with implementing the commitments made by SIL Statement on Creation Care. The role of Environmental Consultant will involve meeting with the unit to strategize and then carrying out the strategy. Activities will include consulting and advising, networking, communicating, advocating and mobilizing SIL members and our partners in this domain.Responsibilities:

  • Participate: Meet regularly with the Creation Care Unit to strategize and plan initiatives.
  • Advise: Utilize knowledge gained from experience and learning in the field to advise the Creation Care Unit on strategies to implement SIL’s commitments in creation care.
  • Execute: Collaborate with other Creation Care Unit members to execute specific tasks delegated by the Creation Care Unit.
  • Communicate: Spread knowledge of what is learned through various communication channels.
  • Consult: Respond to Operational Units and partner organizations by integrating environmental considerations into existing activities, promoting environmentally sound practices, and mitigating any environmental damage.
  • Advocate: Proactively promote creation care and environmental stewardship as key considerations in all SIL and partner activities.
  • Network: Maintain and develop engagement with relevant networks and forums to ensure SIL’s knowledge, expertise, and interests in environmental issues are well-represented.
  • Personal Development: Engage in strategic study and research to stay informed about key environmental and creation care issues relevant to SIL’s context.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
  • Strong knowledge of environmental science, sustainability practices, and creation care principles.
  • Strategic planning and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in consulting and advising on environmental issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively network and advocate within both Christian and secular forums.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently.
  • Passionate about environmental stewardship and sustainability.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Sustainability, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental consulting, sustainability, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in advising and consulting on environmental projects.
  • Proven track record of executing environmental strategies and initiatives.
  • Experience in networking and maintaining relationships with relevant stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with integrating environmental considerations into organizational activities.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Environmental Professional) are a plus.
